LUMIPro Presents The Amazing Work Of Jake Frost!

Hello everybody! I am so excited to get to introduce you guys to LUMIPro's newest gallery artist... Jake Frost! He is not only an amazing talent but a great person as well. I had the pleasure of sitting down with him for an interview this week, and I wanted to share it with everyone.

I am so excited to not only get to interview a friend but an amazing artist. ! So first question… How did you hear about Second Life, and what got you started?

Yay!! Me too. I hope it all translates well for reading...

I think 2006 I created my first av to do a virtual social experiment on color of an av and perception bias. “Way back in MY time …” before there were skins and stuff. What was crazy back then (before Lumi) is, I had someone create a projector script to change the intensity and light color. So I got the photo bug early on.

That is so cool. I have thought about going around Second Life as a man just to explore a different experience. What are some of the things that you love about Second Life? What keeps you coming back?

I feel like Second Life is Purgatory for those who are sometimes stricken with something physical and can’t get out … and socially awkward.  Specifically,  I fall into the latter category. It allows you to be anything and afford things you couldn’t in RL.  Even with all the saga that can happen, I LOVE the beautiful places here, and how much has changed (bling:rip).   Also, I’ve made friends over time who have supported me through some rough stuff. It’s a place to learn and grow and create.

I totally agree! I never would have guessed you struggled to be social. You are so much fun to be around, but back to photography. You know how much I love your work. What got you started in photography?

Light. Also, I had people encouraging me to do more when I just started doing snapshots. When shadows got added to SL it was over for me :) A friend of mine in my Master’s program was selling digital art and had a gallery. I started tinkering. I also got kind of a mentor named Cienega Soon, and she showed me galleries of all the amazing things people were creating. Finally, if anyone knows the story of Colin and Melodious Source that’s what serves as a little seed of inspiration even now.

I have always said photography is a journey; it is not about being the best, but about where you are going. Why do you take photos? Are you trying to say something to the world?

I take photos because I can’t NOT take photos. That bit about being socially awkward... photos are how I connect with people. It takes time to get to know someone, find their specific light, angles that work for them. It’s this gorgeous puzzle mixed with a treasure hunt.

As far as where I am going … I’ve just started diving into erotica. It is NOT easy, and there is lots of, ‘Hey sit on the pose. Nope. Crap. Up please. Nope. This light sucks.” I do not want porn. There is enough of that to gag a cow, so I’m doing my best to set a better precedent for what art can be.

What’s great about art in SL is I’ve reached out to people who I feel are crazy beautiful artists and they’ve given me hints along the way. I have note cards collected from conversations that I read from time to time to help me remember basic things. Right now I’m trying to share my knowledge to help someone close to me get their skills up, so teaching is also a “give back” thing for me.

That is awesome. I love it when people are open enough to share their knowledge.  When you decide you want to do a new photo what is your creative process like from start to finish?

That’s a massive fuckin’ question. It depends on the context. There are times I’ll see something someone is wearing, and say “don’t move” then start snapping.  Others, I have multiple “long term” ideas in my head. One specific image I’ve been trying to re-capture for 10 years.  I’ve gotten close, but still hunting for it.  In general, it’s always a collaboration, and whomever I work with can say ‘what this really needs is…” then put that in the photo stew too. Sometimes, you just have to back off of an idea and come back to it.

I work in Black Dragon mostly, so I have maybe 100+ windlights I’ve created for specific people or for a specific mood. There are maybe a dozen I start as a base, then just move sliders around. My “vibe” is adding a bit of haze to an environment and love of shadow.  I used to be rather monochrome but trying to branch out and bring a bit more color to things I do now.

What advice would you give to new photographers in Second Life?
Don’t force it. Surround yourself with people who encourage you, and respect the haters. Haters have something to teach us too. Take what you can, then dust those fuckers off and move on.

Admittedly, I struggle with that last bit. So that’s why I’m sharing it :)

Do you have any photography inspirations in either Second Life or Real Life?

William Weaver, Anya Ohmai (content creators and teachers), Eripom, Jinxy Jinx, KimB, Sonic, Lam Erin, Nekotto, Jeff Montgomery, Arnno Planar, Prophet, Loverdag, Swain Craven (mild drool) Samanda (who helped me way early on in the journey) …B. Tombstone, Bytedreams Slade… on and on. Also, I have to give a shout out to Coco (owner of Ilcocoli) who when I got frustrated would say “call me” and just show me things at the drop of a hat.

That’s just off the top of my head. I only follow those who inspire me. So, if I follow you on FLICKR you inspire me in some way.

So how about we talk about the hud that brought us together, LUMIPro! How did you hear about LUMIPro, and what made you decide to take the plunge and get the HUD?

Pondering. I think I was searching for a pose stand on MP, or maybe it was light scripts? Anyway, I can’t remember how it began, but I remember that immediately there was a community to ask questions with people who were having the same struggles making a vision happen. I think a combination of the Lumi community and the product itself is what made me a fan from the beginning. I also remember, waaaay back when, you and Stefan actually dropped by my little spot where I was learning. I felt like such a big deal lol. So that was a memory that kept me committed to the Lumi as well.

I remember when you first got started with LUMIPro! I love watching people grow in their artistic journey. Watching you explore new freedom and creativity has been awesome. Do you have a favorite LUMIPro feature?

Sitball. And let me think… sitball. Then there’s the sitball. When you showed me how to do that, it elevated my ability to make a vision happen. The lights and such are cool, but to me, the entire package of what Lumi provides (pretty much ANYWHERE you want to shoot), is well worth the cost. Also, you never stop learning with it. Mixing between Lumi and windlights gives me photogasms.

That is why I love helping people watching that “light bulb’’ moment when they learn something new just makes me happy. If you could pick a new LUMIPro feature what would it be?

If I could directly manipulate the skeleton on someone posing, I’d pay another 3k for it.

So tell me something else… Maybe share something our readers won’t know. What makes you who you are?

I love storms and creating experiences of interaction. So, the gallery setup is designed for direct interaction with the art, and spaces to just sit and be.  We’re testing all the diff pieces right now, but I like doing things that make folks think about something differently for themselves and go create.

I have no doubt people are going to love it. Last but not least what are your hopes for your future in Second Life?

It’s cheesy, but to remember how blessed I am and to remain joyful. I think each person deals with the “I’m not good enough for this vision that I have for my life.” You are. I am. The person next to you is. What I am learning in SL about relationships extends into my real life as well.

So … whatever it is you are going through as you read this, I hope you heal if you need healing. If you are radiating with good vibes, share them. Be kind.

I hope everyone enjoys getting to know the man behind the camera. Here is Jake's Flickr if you would like to give him a follow. The show will be on May 23rd from 5-7PM SLT. (We will put out the landmark the night before.) DJ Xenon will be keeping us entertained. It is going to be a great time! I hope we will see you all there!

Landmark will be given before the show.

Until next time... Happy Shooting!

LUMIPro's Gallery Features Tiya Aura!

Good morning LUMIPro enthusiasts! Today we are excited to bring you s gallery show featuring the work of the amazing Tiya Aura. The show will be today (the 16th) at 1 PM. While we all wait I had the pleasure of sitting down with her for an interview...

I am so excited to have the opportunity to interview such an amazing artist! So first question… How did you hear about Second Life, and what got you started? Tiya: I was watching a TV show many years ago. While watching it, I was amazed at how these people, who were playing the game took it so real. I got talking to my friend about it and just for fun, we decided to try it. I guess like everyone else who plays Second Life we got addicted the first day on it. What are some of the things that you love about Second Life? What keeps you coming back? Tiya: I was a massive horse breeder and an auctioneer. Designing great horses and selling them was such a buzz I was totally addicted and made great Money. Meeting some amazing people also was fantastic, even though I don’t Breed horses anymore I still have all the friends I met while doing it.

I love your work. What got you started in photography? Tiya: I had some friends who would ask me to do profile pictures for them. Then some other friends said try Flickr. I had never heard of it. So I took a look and was amazed at all the artist that did great artwork I was blown away and thought I need to learn this and so I did ( Best thing I’ve done so far in Second Life ) I have always said that photography is a journey it is not about being the best, but about where you are going. Why do you take photos? Are you trying to say something to the world? Tiya: Hard question to answer, I guess it’s the love of what you can do with the lights and your avatar and seeing the finished picture. As you know some pictures can take hours, you have to fix your fingers, fix your face, body limbs, etc. For me, it’s relaxing and it makes me feel good creating something that other people love, also it makes you feel good and there isn’t a better feeling than that.

When you decide you want to do a new photo what is your creative process like from start to finish? Tiya: Oh, this is easy ( I am laughing here ) I go shopping and see something I like. Usually, the moment I see it, I get an idea for a picture... I see a finished picture in my head so I have to get the pose correct do my lights, a certain way. I think most of us do this. Something just clicks in your head. I think I am lucky because I am an artist in RL so it's easier for me to know what I wish the finished picture to be. They don’t always work lol What advice would you give to new photographers in Second Life? Tiya: Buy LUMIPro !!!!!!! I am glad you love it as much as I do! Do you have any photography inspirations in either Second Life or Real Life?
Tiya: No, but I did mention I am an artist in RL, which is why I love doing pictures In SL. To me, it is an extension of my RL I draw sensual couple pictures and I do portraits. So to be able to alter your avatar into a sensual position or do a great face shot is awesome to me.

I would love to see some of your real-life work sometime! So how about we talk about the hud that brought us together, LUMIPro! How did you hear about LUMIPro, and what made you decide to take the plunge and get the HUD?
Tiya: My friends were using the LUMIPro while taking pictures ( I was watching them) I was like wow how are you doing all that ( lights etc) so they explained all about the LUMIpro. I was very lucky because a great person I know then went and bought me one for a gift, he had to then teach me how to use it, poor guy, lol A teacher is definitely helpful. Do you have a favorite LUMIPro feature?
Tiya: I love you have poses built-in, that's awesome and I love using the projector and the lights. There is so much you can do with the lights, it’s great fun to play around with. If you could pick a new LUMIPro feature what would it be?
Tiya: I would love it if you could fix your hands and body and face via the hud, instead of having to have a different hud on fixing poses. But apart from that, I think it's Perfecto.

So tell me something else… Maybe share something our readers won’t know. What makes you who you are?
Tiya: Well I am called Brat in SL, and I earned that name lol My friends say I am driven, outspoken and I don't give a crap about what I say, which is correct because I don't lol If you don't want the truth, don't ask me a question, because you may not like my answer. I am very honest and I love nothing more than to help people. I am just me, I've nothing hidden I am an open book... I love nothing more than laughing :) Last but not least, what are your hopes for your future in Second Life?
Tiya: I hope every picture I take gets better and better. There are some stunning artists out there and my hopes are that one day I will reach the level that they are at. I still have a long way to go, but hell I am enjoying the journey.

I had a wonderful time interviewing Tiya! I hope to see you all at her show today at 1PM. You will not want to miss it!

Here is your ride!

LUMIPro's Photography and Art Gallery Features Roxi Richez!

Hello Everyone! I am excited to have LUMIPro's Gallery bring you the wonderful photography of Roxi Richez! She is an amazing artist who I know you guys are going to love. The show details will be below, but first I thought I would share her interview with you.

Sam: I am so excited to have the opportunity to not only interview a friend but an amazing as well! So first question… How did you hear about Second Life, and what got you started?

I was actually in an adult cam chat room back in the day when a friend of mine told me about this place he had found called Second Life. He said if you can think it you can do it so I made an account and logged in. I didn’t stay long the first time but gave it another try when he offered to show me around. Other than a break for some real life things going on I’ve been hooked ever since.

Sam: What are some of the things that you love about Second Life? What keeps you coming back?

There is so much here that I love. I love the people. I have made some of my best friends here in second life. I love the creativity I see everywhere. The builds, the clothes, the pictures, the sims. So much talent in one spot.

Sam: You are definitely one of my favorite photographers. What got you started?

I was bored one day looking for something to do and I walked into the Callie Cline store. There was a black and white photo on the wall that made me say oh damn I want to be able to do that. I wandered around some more to see what it would take to do that and my passion was born.

Sam: Why do you take photos? Are you trying to say something to the world?

Photos are how I relax. It’s also how I can express myself. It’s not so much telling the world something as much as it is sharing a bit of myself with others. Sometimes its easier to show a bit of yourself than to tell it.

Sam: When you decide you want to do a new photo what is your creative process like from start to finish?

I’ll be honest I never just decide I’m going to do a new photo. Something rings a bell in my head. A prop, an outfit, a song will get in there and it won’t leave me alone until I get it out. There is no telling where or when it will hit me, but when it does, it won’t leave me alone until I do. I let that simmer in my brain for a bit working out what I might like to do then I start putting things together. Outfits, backdrops, and poses. Each picture is different, so I go about it in different ways.

Sam: What advice would you give to new photographers in Second Life?

Ask questions, find a mentor, join groups. Most of all find YOUR style. Don’t try to be what someone else thinks you should be. You will be much happier doing what you like. Oh and buy a Lumipro – it will save you tons of time.

Sam: Do you have any photography inspirations in either Second Life or Real Life?

There are so many amazing photographers in Second Life I can’t even begin to name them. In real life, I totally adore Luis Royo and his so very twisted talents.

Sam: So how about we talk about the hud that brought us together, LUMIPro! How did you hear about LUMIPro, and what made you decide to take the plunge and get the HUD?

Now, Sam, I’ve been in SL for a long long time and my memory isn’t that good. I don’t remember who told me about it, but I’ve always struggled with lighting and keeping poses in order. When I saw that Lumipro could keep my poses organized and that it would help me with lighting I was sold. All the other extras were lagniappe.

Sam: Do you have a favorite LUMIPro feature?

The lighting features would have to be my favorite followed closely by the posing.

Sam: If you could pick a new LUMIPro feature what would it be?

If by some chance they could incorporate something like anypose into it that would make me and a ton of other photographers happy as clams.

Sam: Thank you for indulging me and talking about LUMIPro. So tell me something else… Maybe share something our readers won’t know. What makes you who you are?

I’m a bit of an introvert and shy no matter what my pictures say.

Sam: And last but not least what are your hopes for your future in Second Life?

I really just go with the flow when it comes to Second Life. Second life is for fun and relaxation. So I guess that would be my hope for my future to continue to have fun and grow in my hobby.

It was wonderful to sit down with Roxi. She is a great human being and an amazing artist. To see even more of her work check out Roxi's Flickr

The gallery show will take place Saturday, April 20th from 5-7PM SLT. DJ Pina Colada will be there to keep us all entertained. I hope to see everyone there!

Until next time... Be Bold, Be Creative, and Happy Shooting!

LUMIPro's Photography and Art Gallery Features Knocks Shadows!

Hello everybody! I am super excited to have LUMIPro's Gallery featuring its first artist of the year... Kn0cks Shadows! He is a wonderful artist, and we can't wait to share his work with you. I will include the details of the show below, but first I had the wonderful opportunity of sitting down with him for a chat.

Sam: I am so excited to have the opportunity to interview you! So first question… How did you hear about Second Life, and what got you started?

Hello Samantha, It’s definitely my pleasure, and thank you so much for the opportunity to interview with you. My real life wife convinced me to try Second Life back in 2007. She got me into roleplaying vampires. We finally decided after some years to take a different direction and we made new avatars and started over. Now we are living separate lives here in SL and even though we take breaks from time to time we keep coming back. SL is always evolving and so are we.

Sam: What are some of the things that you love about Second Life? What keeps you coming back?

Over the years there have been a lot of things I’ve loved about Second Life. I really enjoyed the role-playing for a long time. Then after we started fresh, I tried out new things….relationships, families, children, hosting in clubs and working as a stripper. Now though….what keeps me coming back is photography. I have a real love for it.

Sam: I used to love roleplay as well. I know you say that your photography is just a hobby but I think you’re amazing. What got you started?

Thank you, and yes, photography is my SL hobby, but I have real goals and aspirations with it. I got started taking snapshots pretty much the same as anyone else. I tried to capture good angles and lighting, but back then I didn’t know anything about graphic settings or windlights or photography tools. I just wanted to capture moments in SL. When I started seeing other residents incredible work I realized there was a lot more to it than just snapping a shot, and I decided to learn.

Sam: It is amazing how others can inspire us. Why do you take photos? Are you trying to say something to the world?

I take photos because I’m trying to say something to me. That I can accomplish something good and beautiful in this world. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I’ve finished a photo that I really like. All my photos originally were dark or black and white. People who knew me then pushed me to try lighter or more colorful photos. I struggled with that and still do because I have an affinity for darker richer colors or simply black and white. I work hard to try to keep my photos viewer friendly and not controversial but that doesn’t always work out. I struggle particularly with photos of women. I guess it’s harder for me to see the softer more feminine side. I do practice with it from time to time though.

Sam: That is wonderful! Black-and-white photos were always my favorite too.Do you have any photography inspirations in either Second Life or Real Life?

I am inspired every day I look at my Flickr feed and see the incredible photos of some that I follow. I also get inspired by real-life photos and sometimes make an effort to recreate that photo in SL. I haven’t done it that often and I really should do it more, because it really challenges you in so many ways.

Sam: What advice would you give to new photographers in Second Life?

Buy a LUMIPro first of all….it is my favorite photography tool and I’m always talking to people about it and how awesome it is. I never take a photo without it. Secondly, I would advise them to learn about graphics settings and windlights. They can make or break a photo. I would also advise them to watch the LUMIPro tutorials as they give tons of useful information. YouTube is another thing I would advise all new photographers to use. Pretty much anything you need to know about SL photography you can find there. I would also say, keep at it….don’t give up or get discouraged if things are not how you want them in the beginning. It takes time to learn….it’s taken me years to just get to where I’m at today…..and I’m still nowhere near the skill level I’d like to be….but I’m steadily learning.

Sam: So how about we talk about the hud that brought us together, LUMIPro! How did you hear about LUMIPro, and what made you decide to take the plunge and get the HUD?

My SL brother, Ambrosous Core, told me about it years ago. I used to ask him how he took the amazing photos he did and how he got the shadowing and lighting and he told me about LUMIPro. He suggested that I get it also. So I saved up for it and bought it.

Sam: I love The Old Bull, lol. I'm glad he was so persuasive Do you have a favorite LUMIPro feature?

I have two favorite features that I use every time…..lighting and poses. I like being able to have all of it in one tool instead of having to use a separate pose stand and light boxes. I also like the projector and use it from time to time.

Sam: If you could pick a new LUMIPro feature what would it be?

At this point in time, the one thing I struggle with when taking photos of other people, are their animations. Sometimes people don’t know how to turn off all head and body animations and it makes it a challenge for me to take the multiple shots that I do…...what I’d like to have is something that stops all animations on a model and still be able to keep them in a pose. I’m sure I’m asking for the impossible, but that’s the thing that I can see I need the most.

Sam: You never know what might be possible in the future! Thank you for indulging me and talking about one of my favorite things. So a little birdie told me you started a blog, and that there is some exciting news around that. Why don’t you tell us about it?

Yes, I did just recently start a blog. I have wanted to be a blogger for a long time, but I never met the typical requirements to blog for big name creators. They usually want you to have at least 1K followers on Flickr and have most of your photos get at least 100 favs… and also to have a blog site with a lot of traffic. So now I’ve gotten over the 1k followers' mark, and most of my photos get at least 100 favs. So the next step was for me to create a blog site and start blogging independently until I reached the mark for that as well. I’d like to thank all who support me now and hopefully will continue to support me as time goes on.
I recently won a guest blogger spot for the Neo Japan Event coming up in a couple weeks. I entered the Neo Japan photo contest a few months ago and placed well enough to get a guest blogger spot. I’m super excited about that!! One of the main administrators of the event is the creator of Gabriel, Takuya Jinn, as well as one of my favorite photographers, Hikaru Enimo. So I feel so honored to get to blog the event. I’m hoping that eventually, I’ll succeed in becoming a permanent blogger for Gabriel as well as a few other of my favorite creators. My blog site only has one entry at this time, a short introduction blog, but in a couple weeks, I’ll have my first “real” blog on there. I’d like to give a shout out to my friend China Doll who helped me find a blog site and pointers on how to set it up. Here’s the link to my blog…
I also post Before and After shots on my Facebook page. I like to do that to show people the original shot and the final photo and hope they see how much time and effort goes into making nice photos. When you just see the final shot there is no way to know just how much work was put into it. I’ve gotten feedback from friends saying they really like those posts. I am Andrew Estrada on Facebook in case anyone would like to see.
My Flickr link in case anyone is interested is…

Sam: So tell me something else… Maybe share something our readers won’t know. What makes you who you are?

Ok, here’s a short Bio of me….I’m 39 years old. I live in San Diego California. I am married in real life and will soon be celebrating our 19th anniversary….yes, I got married when I was 20 LOL.  I am a recovering heroin addict with almost 17 years clean now and former gang member. I used to be a substance abuse counselor, but now I am a case manager in behavioral health and work with disabled veterans. I live my life now to help and serve my community, instead of harming it. I am very dedicated to my real life wife and family.
In SL, I’m currently single. I spend most of my SL time on photography, but I do make time to support my SL brother when he Dj’s and also to spend time with some friends clubbing or just hanging out. I don’t have an SL home anymore, I have a bare platform that I use for most of my photography. Even though I have many who tell me I should become a professional photographer in SL and make money on it….I disagree, because it’s something I really love to do and I don’t want to take the fun out of it by making it a business...not to mention I don’t feel confident when I do other peoples photos because I feel like I can’t be free to do what I’d like with them since they are not my avatars. I’m ok with making my avi’s face bloody or dirty or distorted, but most people wouldn’t appreciate that LOL …. So I keep it as my hobby and I don’t do photos for other people except for friends or family occasionally and I never charge them. I haven’t come to the decision that my work is worthy of a price tag.

Sam: thank you for being so honest and congratulations on a wonderful marriage and your sobriety! Last but not least what is in Kn0cks future?

Well that’s a tough one...it’s really hard to say. I don’t try to look too much to the future...I try to stay in the present, live life one day at a time and stay humble. I do have goals and I’m working towards them and I hope one day I actually see some of them become reality. Personal life is another up in the air situation here in SL. At this time, I see myself staying single. Dating is a nice option, but no more relationships, at least not in the near future.

Thank you so much Samantha for inviting me to have a Gallery showing and for taking an interest in me and my work. I’ve been a dedicated LUMIPro user for a few years now and this is definitely an unexpected honor.

Kn0cks has been one of the humblest and kindest people I have had the pleasure of interviewing. I want to thank him for being so open with us! Now let's get to the details of this amazing show!

The gallery show will take place, Saturday, March 16 from 12 to 2 PM. We will have DJ Savage Samage there to keep you all entertained! I really hope to see everyone there!

Until next time... Be Bold, Be Creative, and Happy Shooting!
